Richard Barrier, a Corrective Care patient, had a chronic pain problem for over 20 years, and is now believer in Prolotherapy.
"When I was still working, I slipped and fell on the ice one winter, and that is when my back problem started," said Mr. Barrier. "My legs would get numb, and I couldn't stand for long periods of time. I also had numbness in my hands." He had two surgeries to attempt to repair the damage, but the problems still existed.
A few years later, he was in a car accident which complicated the problem, and he had to endure yet another back surgery. He still was suffering from the chronic pain, and could no longer participate in some of the activities he enjoyed such as dancing, swimming, water skiing and playing ball. Even yard work and household chores caused him much discomfort.
His doctor prescribed multiple medications, and suggested that he try a chiropractor. "The chiropractor helped reduce the pain a little bit, but I still had the numbness in my arms and legs," said Mr. Barrier. "My chiropractor did a lot of manipulations for my back, but after awhile, he referred me to Corrective Care. he told me that they may be able to help me with my problems.
Mr. Barrier made the appointment with hopes that he would finally have some answers to his back pain, and get some relief. Dr. Sandler saw him and determined Mr. Barrier had two major problems. One leg was significantly shorter than the other, and he had lost the strength of the ligaments in the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joints. The solution was to have Mr. Barrier wear a heel life in his shoe so both legs would be of equal length, and would align his skeleton properly. The second solution was to have a prolotherapy treatment to relieve the lower back pain.
"After one treatment, the pain in my lower back was dramatically better," said Mr. Barrier. "I couldn't believe that the pain was finally gone-after all this time!" He is now able to stand for longer periods of time and the numbness in his hands and legs finally went away. He is walking everyday to keep up his strength, and his wife even noticed a difference in his behavior. " I have a better outlook now that i don't have that pain anymore," stated Mr. Barrier. "I have some pain in my left shoulder, and am going to have a prolotherapy treatment to relieve that pain as well. I would recommend to anyone who has been suffering with a chronic pain problem for any length of time to consider prolotherapy. I can't believe how much better I feel now."
