Francine Payne Finds Help For Constant Neck, Shoulder And Back Pain

Francine Payne, a Corrective Care patient, suffered with disabling neck, shoulder and back pain for over 10 years. She also has fibromyalgia, and had been seeing a rheumatologist and going to a pain clinic for pain relief with limited results. "It got to the point where they were going to treat the pain only because that had no luck determining the cause," said Francine.

Francine's cardiologist, who was already a patient at Corrective Care, recommended that she consider seeking help at Corrective Care. She made the decision to come in August, 2000. "I was in constant pain, and could not do the things I lided to do with my family and around my house" said Francine. She had to stop her activities several times a day to sit or lie down in order to control her pain. Lifting things, repetitive motions or sitting at a desk at work made her pain even worse.

Coupled with her fibromyalgia, an MRI revealed that spaces in the spinal canal were more narrow than normal. Francine struggled with cold hands and feet, fatigue, easy bruising and muscle cramps. She had pain and weakness of the ligaments of the gliding or facet joints of the neck. These joints allow bending, twisting and turning, and are held stable by a cocoon of tight spring-like bands of connective tissues called ligaments. These ligaments had become weakened and painful over time.

"My quality of life has improved significantly-it's miraculous" Francine Payne

Their first recommendation was to begin prolotherapy (stimulated ligament repair) to the gliding facet joints in the neck and shuolder girdle region. He explained how the process works and provide reading material so she understood what was going to be happening to these ligaments during the prolotherapy treatments. "I finally experienced relief in the sixth month of treatment," said Francine. "I was going every three weeks for prolotherapy injections, and began an exercise program of just walking." She is now able to sit for prolonged periods at her desk and work full-time(she was only able to work part-time prior to her treatments), without having bad flares of pain. Her neck has a more comfortable range of movement forward and backward, and bending and turning to the right and left is much easier as well.

In addition to prolotherapy, they did blood, food allergy and hormone tests. "We found that I had some food sensitivities-especially to wheat-as well as a thyroid and hormonal issues," said Francine. They found that she had a low thyroid function, and this impaired her ability to recover or heal appropriately. With an optimum thyroid replacement, she is feeling and healing better.

Today, Francine's life is dramatically different. "My quality of life has improved significantly-it's miraculous," she said. "I can now do the things I really enjoy, such as exercising, gardening, and I especially like the fact that I am able to hold my first grandchild. Coming to Corrective Care was one of the best things I've done for myself."
