I am writing in support, of Dr. Sandler's use of prolotherapy injections for the treatment of ligamentous instability. As a podiatrist, I treat many patients with chronic ankle instability. Some of these are very frustrating because they do not resolve with traditional treatments. These patients return to my practice quite frequently for treatment of this painful, debilitating problem.
Approximately one year ago I encountered the concept of prolotherapy in my literature review. When I found that Dr. Sandler was able to perform this treatment, I referred a patient to him. She experienced complete resolution of her problem was able to return to work full time.
Since then I have sent several other patients to Dr. Sandler for prolotherapy. All were patients that I had been treating for at least a year and most had received prior treatment from other physicians. Traditional treatment had included physical therapy, orthopedic strappings, fiberglass casts, Cam walkers, custom fabricated functional orthotics, and a variety of ankle braces. None of these had resolved the problem and the only remaining option was surgical treatment with lateral ankle stabilization. Although I do perform this procedure on selected patients, I prefer to avoid this type of surgical intervention so I referred these patients to Dr. Sandler.
Three of these have experienced complete resolution of the problem and all have had considerable relief.
